Former Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has reacted to the Supreme Court’s verdict which affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu as winner of the last presidential poll in the country, saying that he was not in a hurry to congratulate the president over his victory at the Apex Court, but would do that after he had studied the ruling.
It would be recalled that Chief George had earlier, while the case filed by the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Mr Peter Obi was progressing in court, said that he would only congratulate President Tinubu after the Supreme Court must have finally affirmed his victory in the last poll exercise.
Chief George said this on Thursday while speaking on telephone, maintaining that making haste to congratulate President Tinubu might lead to a blunder, particularly since he had not digested the details of the ruling.
George, who is also the Atona Oodua of Yoruba land, however, noted that whatever happened was a lesson for his party, the PDP to learn from, saying God had chosen to teach the main opposition party and its members a great lesson.
He pointed out that what was left for the party now was to go back to the drawing board and restrategise, even as urged every Nigerian to keep praying for the country and commit things into God’s hand to “lead us right.”
“I don’t need to be in a hurry to do that, we still need to study the ruling, and have a clear understanding of what the ruling is all about, whether the ruling is in tandem with the belief of the people and the constitutional provisions.
“Though, the ruling of the Supreme Court is the final verdict, but we still need to study it.
“If one should hurry to do things, he may end up regretting his action. We need to carefully study the ruling, it is too early to start jumping up and down,” he said.
“Our party has a great lesson to learn from the ruling. If anything happens to you, you need to calm down to resolve it. So we need to study the situation clearly, where did things go wrong? What is it that we did not do well? It is a lesson for us in the PDP.
“If God has made up his mind to do something, he will teach you some lessons. Many will come with different pieces of advice that will serve as lessons. Also, we have to study the disposition of each judge to issues raised.
“We are going to do an indepth study of the ruling, before we comment on the ruling,” he added.
