Big Brother Titans’ Blessing Nana Basheru, in this interview by ADERONKE ADESANYA, speaks about her journey and experience on the reality TV show.

You got quite far in the Big Brother Titan show. Why did you audition for the show?

I auditioned for the experience. It was something I had been looking forward to. I also went for the the money, the fame and the opportunities that come with it and luckily, I was selected among thousands of applicants.

What was it like in the Big Brother House?

It was a great experience. At some point, it was weird to me because of my kind of person. I hadn’t been in the same vicinity with 23 different people with different personalities and characters before. So, it was a bit difficult for me to associate with the housemates in the beginning. Back then when I used to watch the show, it was different. Being inside the house wasn’t exactly what I had expected. There’s a difference between watching the show and being live on it.

Was it weird having cameras watching your every move?

At first it was weird seeing cameras here and there watching my every move, but with time, I got used to it. So, you know, I just had to be myself — no pretence.

Did you miss your privacy?

Yes, I really did miss my privacy. Staying inside a house with 23 other people with cameras everywhere is nothing close to having your privacy.

What is the next step for you?

To focus on anything that brings money. I want to utilise this opportunity, the fame the Big Brother Titan show has given me to achieve a lot of things. I know my future is bright but I want it to be brighter. I want to get lots of endorsements, deals and build my life in the entertainment industry. I’m ready for the entertainment industry, brand endorsement and fashion and modeling businesses. I want to build my own brand.

What was your favourite task during the show?

My favourite challenge was the Egyptian task.It was not easy but I managed to pull through.

What were the initial moments in the house like?

The first few weeks in the house, I was in my shell. I wasn’t really participating well in the tasks and I wasn’t really doing much because I was just in my space until my friends, Juicy Jay, Thabang and Kanaga Jr., advised me. And things I thought I couldn’t do, I started doing them very well afterwards.

What was the best fun moment you had in there?

The club and pool parties. I enjoyed most of the parties. Those were fun moments. In fact, every day in the house was fun.

What are your major fears in life?

Well, yes, I’m human, I do have fears. I have fear of rejection, fear of loneliness, because I have gotten used to being around people. I also fear not being able to accomplish everything in my bucket list.

Who were your favorite housemates?

I was cool with all the housemates. You know, you can’t be friends with everyone but I got well connected with some people in the house.  I won’t mention their names.

Did you have fun meeting people from other countries?

Yes, I had fun. I had never met a South African up close before and the Big Brother house brought us all together and it was amazing. I got to learn a few things from them. I ate some of their food. I got to learn their language a bit and some of their cultures. It was really exciting.

While in the house, you stated that you were single. Now that you’re out of the house, are you ready to mingle?

I don’t think I have time for that right now. For now, I just want to focus on myself and my brand and achieve the goals I set for myself before stepping into the house.

Was there ever a time in the house you cried yourself to bed?

Yes, there was. There was a time I got sick in the house and the other housemates were doing a task and I could not participate. I was just alone. Watching the housemates do what I was supposed to be included in made me so sad that I cried till I slept.

What was your unforgettable moment in the house?

Week 5 was a very memorable and fantastic week for me. My partner, Thabang and I won head of house. Also, during that week, we won several challenges and sponsored tasks. That week was a fantastic week. I don’t think I can ever forget that moment.

How would you describe yourself in five words?

Beautiful, strong, hardworking, brave and ambitious.

Do you plan to go back to school and complete your education?

For now, I am putting my education on hold to focus on my career. When all is settled, I will go back to school.

What do you hope to achieve in the future?

I hope to achieve a lot now and in the future. I hope to get bigger deals in years to come. I hope to be at a higher and better place than I am now.

Some people judged you for some things you said in the house, do you have anything to say about that?

I have come to realise that not everyone will love you or be pleased with what you do. You can’t please everyone and I’m not a people pleaser. No matter who you are or what you do, there will be people who don’t feel or understand the things you do. There’s no housemate from the Big Brothers show that has not been dragged in one way or another. A lot of people misunderstand my personality. Sometimes I get confused about certain things that should I have done it this way or another way. I’m Nana, I like to do my thing my way, it is people’s choice to like me or not to like me. I don’t think I will ever change my personality to please anyone.

What is your advice for people that are also aspiring to feature on the reality TV show?

I’d advise them to go because the experience is amazing. If you get can get the opportunity, just go in there and be yourself and have fun. It is like a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  It is fun and educative.

What is your message to your fans?

I love them all and can’t wait to meet some of them. I’m so grateful for their love and kindness and for having my back. Their support got me far in the house. I will never take them for granted.
