The Jigawa State Command of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has rescued ten suspected victims of human trafficking during a midnight operation at Babura local government area, a border to the Nigerian Republic.
Parading the suspects, the Nigerian Immigration Service Comptroller, Mr T Musa, said the victims were interception at Tsamiyar Kwance in Babura Local Government Area in the state by Operation Salama team on patrol.
The comptroller noted that the victims, comprising eight females and two males, were en route to Europe through illegal migration channels.

Mr Musa explained that the victim’s ages ranged between 21 and 30 years, who were from Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Imo states.
“They include Alatise Damilola, 29 years from Oyo State; Ayomide Adeyemi, 24 years of Ondo State; Wisdom Chikwu Emeka, 29 years from Imo State; Lateef Jumoke, 30 years from Ondo State and Emyola Adeoye 24 year from Ogun State”.
“Others are Soneye Abigeal 22 years from Ogun State, Ogunleye Temitope 29 years from Ogun State, Osirowo Rebecca 21 years from Ogun State, Oniyide Kabirat 27 years from Ogun State and Azizat Adaranijo 26 year from Ogun State ”
He said during interrogation revealed that they were being trafficked from various locations to Kano and onward to Babura, with plans to cross into Niger Republic, then to Libya, and eventually Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
The victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for rehabilitation and further investigation.
During a media briefing, the Command expressed concern over the rising cases of human trafficking and illegal migration, urging parents and guardians to monitor their children and prevent them from falling prey to traffickers.
The command however emphasized the ongoing commitment to reducing irregular migration in the state.
