The Zamfara state primary health care board has called on parents and carers to encourage wives and allow their children to be immunised, just as the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) reiterated that immunisation is free and no child will be left.

Speaking on Friday during a one-day media sensitization for the upcoming polio vaccination and quarterly review meeting on routine immunisation exercise held at Karma Hotel in Gusau, Executive Secretary Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board Dr Hussaini Yakubu appreciated the role of media in the campaign exercise on immunisation in the state.

The Executive Secretary, who was represented by the deputy director of administration, Hajiya Suwaiba Lawal, urged the media to continue giving support for the success of immunisation in the state.

Earlier on, the health educator of the Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board, Mallam Kabiru Danja, called on the media in the state to redouble efforts in the enlightenment campaign on the importance of immunisation in the state.

Addressing the participants, UNICEF team lead in Zamfara state, Kulu Sanda, who spoke on the role of media in polio eradication, urged media practitioners to redouble their efforts to enlighten parents on the importance of immunisation for their children.

She emphasised that vaccines for immunisation are free to all children. “Allow your child to receive immunisation; no child will be left,” she appealed to parents.

According to the second quarter report on routine immunisation in Zamfara State, out of 14 local government areas, only three have passed.

It was reported that Zamfara State is among the states with the highest zero-dose immunisation rates; this was attributed to the insecurity and lack of adequate awareness in some parts of the state.

The Zamfara State Primary Health care board and partners urged parents to embrace the polio vaccination exercise, which is coming on the 14th of this month in the state.
