A lawmaker representing Oguta state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly Hon. Frank Ugboma has expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as irregularities that marred the elections.
He urged his supporters to remain calm, confident of lawful reactions which would be decided upon by the PDP, following the outcome of the March 18 state Assembly poll.
He described the purported election as a sham adding that the conduct of INEC as the umpire in collaboration with the ruling party in the state and security agencies was barbaric, draconian, and antiquated.
He said: “it is sad to note that we did not lose a fair election in a fair contest. As an opposition party in the state, our hope and trust lie in the figures of our untainted accredited voters, their votes and the tenacity of our spirit”.
He said: ” Election does not define an individual, it defines the society and the system. Every choice, action and inaction have consequences, positive or negative”.
Ugboma, who contested the election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), advised in a release which he signed and made available to newsmen in Owerri, on Sunday
The lawmaker and lawyer who currently serves as Deputy Minority Leader of the Imo House of Assembly thanked his constituents for the opportunity to serve them since 2019.
He listed his achievements as a lawmaker to include sponsorship of one, out of the two non-executive bills passed by the House and assented to by Gov. Hope Uzodinma – the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Imo State (2020)- and provision of jobs for 15 youths of Oguta council area among others.
He said: “As your representative, I have placed your interests above my interest even in the face of juicy offers placed before me. I did not distort nor betray the mandate you gave me by jumping from one political party to another just for personal gains”.
He said that he attracted people-oriented projects to his constituency, adding that the projects so attracted and executed by his office were limited due to the financial dependence of state legislatures on the executive.
According to him, he sponsored the most viable bill known as ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE LAW OF IMO STATE (2020), adding that the law is cited copiously in the Nigerian courts on daily basis by legal experts.
He said that he equally sponsored another bill known as MAGISTRATE COURT LAWS OF IMO STATE awaiting the Governor’s assent.
He said: ” When a bill for financial autonomy for State judiciary, State legislature and Local Government system was sent by the National Assembly to State Houses of Assembly for their nod as demanded by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I led my colleagues in the minority to support this people-oriented bill”.
