The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Zamfara State, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, stating that the imposition of candidates would no longer be acceptable in the state.

Dr. Shinkafi, who survived an assassination attempt last Friday by alleged bandits and political thugs following his recent criticism of the imposition of party candidates, urged President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly to save the APC and the citizens of Zamfara from insecurity before it is too late.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday night in Gusau, the state capital, Dr. Shinkafi recounted that he was attacked at the Rabi’at Jumu’at Mosque while attending a wedding fatiha.

“I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, to act fast to save Zamfara APC before it’s too late,” he appealed.

Dr. Shinkafi lamented that the alleged attackers, who attempted to assassinate him, were members of his own party (APC), describing it as a deliberate attempt to silence him for advocating justice for the APC and the people of Zamfara.

“I recognized my attackers as APC members. This is clearly a mission to silence me because I openly criticized the imposition of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections and the failure to arrest notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji,” he said.

He highlighted the APC’s past challenges, stating, “We all saw how the APC lost Zamfara in 2019 and 2023 due to the imposition of candidates. This will not happen again. I will continue to advocate for justice. The APC will not be hijacked by individuals,” he added.

“Nobody can stop me from exercising my rights. I will continue to speak my mind. The imposition of candidates will no longer work. I will remain in the APC and fight against injustice.”

Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi emphasized that he holds no grudges against anyone. He also called on Governor Dauda Lawal to act urgently to curb the activities of thugs, urging the enactment of laws to address the menace in the state.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the Zamfara State APC spokesperson, Malam Yusuf Idris, the party condemned the attack as “unacceptable.”

“The party was shocked by how the horrific incident unfolded, as some youths joined by irate individuals displayed such bad behavior,” the statement read.

“The APC totally condemns Friday’s attack on Hon. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi during the wedding fatiha of Alhaji Siddi Daki Takwas’ children. Such behavior is alien to the values of our party,” he stated.

“The party will take all necessary steps to ensure the perpetrators of such high-level indiscipline are arrested and prosecuted according to the law,” he assured.
