The Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning in Akwa Ibom State, Captain Iniobong Ekong, is deeply mourning the passing of his beloved mother, Deaconess Edoabasi Ekong, who peacefully departed this life at the age of 85. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable life, one defined by unwavering faith, selfless service, and an enduring commitment to both family and community.

The announcement of her passing was made by her husband, Elder Edward Moses Ekong, who outlined the family’s plans for the final rites. The ceremonies will begin with the Opening of the Mourning House on Sunday, April 6, 2025. This will be followed by a Service of Songs and Friends Night on Thursday, April 10, 2025. The final farewell will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with the burial ceremony at Ikot Akpafuk, Ndiya, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, to be officiated by the Lutheran Church of Nigeria.

Reflecting on his mother’s life and legacy, Captain Iniobong Ekong described her as a pillar of strength whose values shaped not only his own journey but also the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. “My mother’s life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and love. Her steadfast faith and dedication to service left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. While her absence is deeply felt, we are determined to honor the extraordinary legacy she leaves behind,” he said.

Deaconess Edoabasi Ekong is survived by her husband, Elder Edward Moses Ekong, and five children: Obonganwan Ekaette Okon Ekong JP, Captain Iniobong Ekong, Anietie Ekong, Ime Francis Udo, and Nsikan Iniobong Akpan. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, and a large extended family and circle of friends, all of whom continue to be inspired by her lifetime of contributions.

Known for her steadfast faith and altruistic spirit, Deaconess Ekong was a matriarch whose life embodied strength, dignity, and selfless service. Her commitment to uplifting those around her remains a beacon of hope that transcends generations.

In a message of appreciation, Elder Edward Moses Ekong, speaking as the Chief Mourner, expressed heartfelt thanks to friends, well-wishers, and the community for their support and condolences during this time of grief. The family has extended an open invitation for sympathizers to join them in celebrating the life and legacy of this remarkable woman, who exemplified grace and purpose.

The family requests prayers for comfort and strength as they navigate this profound loss.
