Elon Musk, owner of X, formerly Twitter, has taken a dig at the delayed official announcement of presidential election results in California, 19 days after polling.
Musk took a swipe at the process while drawing a stark comparison between how India was able to count 640 million votes in a single day during Lok Sabha elections and the current delay in election results in California.
The billionaire businessman, a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump, described the situation in California as “tragic.”
Meanwhile, Tribune Online reports that former President Donald Trump is the 47th U.S. president after polling over 300 electoral votes and also winning by popular votes to defeat Democratic candidate and US Vice President Kamala Harris.
Musk, while reposting a post on X about vote counting in India, wrote, “India counted 640 million votes in 1 day. California is still counting votes.” Musk’s facepalm emoji expressed his resentment for the process.
California is the most populous state in the US and home to nearly 39 million residents, with over 16 million of them participating in the November 5 election. Kamala Harris was declared the winner in California, however, an official announcement is still pending.
However, unlike those ballots cast in person, elections in California are primarily by mail, requiring more time and effort to verify mail-in ballots.
Tribune Online gathered that the state allows until December 1 to address problem ballots from voters who made a mistake. Such a mistake could be forgetting to pend their signature, signing in the wrong place or not enclosing their ballot in the proper envelope.
