As Edo State transitions to new leadership, outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki has urged incoming Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo to keep security at the forefront of his administration’s priorities.
Speaking during a security meeting in Benin with top security officials, Obaseki highlighted that without a strong focus on security, the stability and safety that have been established could be compromised.
Reflecting on his tenure, Obaseki asserted that his administration was leaving behind a safer and more secure Edo State compared to when he assumed office in 2016.
He noted that prioritizing security over politics had enabled his administration to make significant strides in transforming the state’s safety and security framework.
“My advice to the incoming administration is to take security seriously and never prioritize politics over security, because there will be problems if they do,” Obaseki warned.
“Citizens demand a secure environment, and we have shown that this is possible with the right approach and commitment.”
Obaseki attributed his administration’s success to the collaborative efforts with security agencies, saying they had collectively reshaped the perception of security in Edo State.
