The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and the Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, have mourned the death of the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Akeredolu’s passing was announced on Wednesday by the state government. 

Tunji-Ojo, in a statement on Wednesday, issued by his media aide, Alao Babatunde, described the death of Akeredolu as a colossal loss to the state and nation at large.

“Today, we bid farewell to an extraordinary individual, a beacon of courage, admired for his unwavering patriotism and selflessness.

“He traversed this earth as a true exemplar of astute leadership, embodying the essence of a genuine leader. This is indeed a colossal loss to Ondo State and the nation at large.

“I mourn the loss of a voice of conscience, a man who stood steadfastly in defence of his people and nation, even in the face of overwhelming challenges.

“While his departure brings immense sorrow, we find comfort in the indelible legacies he has left behind as a noble gentleman and a dedicated statesman. May God grant him eternal peace and provide solace to his family during this difficult time,” he added.

On his part, the Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN,  described the late governor of the state, as a patriotic and hardworking governor.

Adegbonmire, in a statement made available to Tribune Online on Wednesday, stated that the death of the  late governor has robbed Ondo State of the services of a patriotic and hard-working Governor. 

He further described him as an accomplished lawyer, truthful, fair, just and fearless leader who spent his time championing the cause of his people and the entire Yoruba nation .

The senator, however, condoled with the government, and people of Ondo state over the demise of  Akeredolu who passed on to eternity in the early hours of Wednesday.

“His Excellency Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, was an accomplished Lawyer, truthful, fair, just and fearless leader, who spent his time championing the cause of his people and the entire Yoruba nation”

“He was a fearless man who prioritised the security of the South West by promoting”Amotekun” and ensured that as the Chairman of the South West Governor’s Forum, this extremely lofty idea/concept was brought to life”

“His Excellency Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON’s voice was loud and his open letters were candid and frank;he was passionate about his convictions

“He fought a good fight, left his footprints in the sands of time and will sorely be missed not only by his family but also by the entire nation. My deepest condolences go to the Akeredolu family, the people of Ondo State and citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, the statement reads.
