Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau, has urged the incoming President, Mazi Afam Ozigwe, to introduce innovative measures to drive the growth and development of the association.

Maikyau made these remarks during the inauguration of the 32nd President and the executive members in Lagos. He emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving legal landscape by implementing modern strategies and reforms that would enhance the NBA’s relevance and impact.

He suggested that these innovations could include leveraging technology for improved service delivery, enhancing legal education and training, and fostering greater collaboration within the legal community. Maikyau highlighted that such steps are essential for ensuring that the NBA continues to play a pivotal role in upholding the rule of law and advancing the interests of its members.

Yakubu Maikyau is set to hand over the leadership to Mazi Afam Ozigwe, SAN, as the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

In his inaugural speech, Mazi Ozigwe, SAN, called for unity among NBA members, regardless of region, practice area, or background. He emphasized his commitment to promoting the welfare of lawyers, professional development, and continuous education under his leadership.

He also announced plans to enhance the independence and integrity of the judiciary, with a focus on the rule of law, justice, and the protection of human rights.

Mazi Afam Ozigwe affirmed his intention to strengthen the NBA’s role as a guardian of justice and an advocate for the rule of law in Nigeria during his tenure.

He noted that his executive team would be dedicated to upholding ethical standards within the profession while engaging with the government, civil society, and international bodies to promote justice and the rule of law.

The new NBA President called on all members to work together for the betterment of the profession and society, expressing confidence in their collective ability to achieve the set goals.
