One of the loyalists of the Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, identified as Hamudat Abibat Babatunde, on Thursday, charged the authorities of the Department of State Security (DSS) to investigate false claims by one Alimi Shakiru Adebare over alleged sexual abuse during her 118 days in custody.

Hamudat, also known as Lady K, was among 13 people arrested in the wake of the July 1, 2021, raid on the Ibadan residence of Adeyemo by the agents of the DSS, during which two people were shot dead.

However, Hamudat, along with 11 other loyalists of Igboho, were granted bail on August 4, 2021, by a Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu.

But while reacting to a viral video where one Adebare claimed that the DSS fired teargas into her private parts while she was being detained, Hamudat, in a personally signed press statement forwarded to journalists, said such an unfounded and demeaning claim must be investigated by security agencies.

The statement reads: “Even though I spent 118 days in DSS custody after our arrest at Chief Sunday Adeyemo’s residence in Ibadan, I was never molested or sexually abused by any agent or officer of the DSS. The man making this false claim must be arrested to face justice for choosing to spread falsehoods to the public about the activities of the security agency.

“I have been traumatised, and many people have been calling me about this destructive mission by Adebare. I’m a woman, and any responsible woman worth her salt will not take kindly to action capable of impugning her womanhood in African society. This spurious and malicious allegation by Adebare, who had dedicated his Facebook page to destroying my integrity and disseminating blatant lies on the DSS, must be investigated.

“I have no regrets about being part of the peaceful agitation for the Yoruba nation under the leadership of Professor Banji Akintoye and Chief Sunday Igboho because our agitation was constitutional, just, and tenable.

“More importantly, the DSS should not allow this campaign of calumny against their organisation to just pass by without taking decisive action to bring the perpetrator to justice as a deterrent to others who are involved in spreading fake news, which is against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ” the statement concluded.
