In anticipation of forthcoming protests against the administration of President Bola Tinubu, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called for calm and restraint.

Recognizing the potential for unrest amidst challenging times, the IPCR emphasized the need for cautious and measured actions to avoid exacerbating Nigeria’s current delicate situation.

The IPCR’s Director General, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, underscored the global economic crisis impacting nations worldwide, including Nigeria, urging stakeholders involved in the planned demonstrations to consider the broader implications of their actions.

“We are facing difficult times, but now more than ever, we must act responsibly to safeguard our nation’s stability,” Dr. Ochogwu remarked.

Highlighting the risks associated with unrest during a critical juncture, the IPCR cautioned that disruptive protests could undermine efforts towards national unity and detract from President Tinubu’s recently articulated agenda for national renewal. The institute stressed the importance of preserving the fragile peace amidst prevalent security concerns across the country.

“While protests are a fundamental right, their timing and approach are crucial,” noted Dr. Ochogwu. “We advocate for constructive engagement rather than actions that may inflame tensions or hinder progress towards overcoming our challenges.”

The IPCR’s advisory comes in the wake of escalating social and economic pressures, urging Nigerians to unite in addressing these difficulties through dialogue and collaboration. The institute’s call for restraint aligns with its mission to promote peace and stability, essential prerequisites for sustainable development.

IPCR’s appeal serves as a poignant reminder of the responsibilities inherent in exercising civic rights. As Nigeria navigates through uncertain times, the institute’s counsel advocates for prudence and strategic thinking to navigate challenges while upholding the nation’s unity and progress.
