Iron Rod and Steel Distributors Employers Union of Nigeria (IRSDEUN) has commended the National Assembly for its recent move against the circulation of substandard iron rods in the country.
In a statement by its national President, Chief Gbenga Awoyale, the Union praised the House of Representatives Committee on Steel Development for taking a strong stance against proliferation of inferior iron rods, being linked to building collapses and loss of lives.
“We applaud the National Assembly for taking this bold step to address the menace of substandard iron rods in Nigeria. We are committed to supporting this effort and ensuring that only quality products are available in the market”.
The Union noted that the move by the National Assembly is a significant step towards protecting the lives of Nigerians and promoting the development of the steel industry.
“We are ready to work with the National Assembly and other stakeholders to ensure that the steel industry is rid of substandard products.
“We believe that this move will not only save lives but also boost the economy and create jobs”, Awoyale added.
“The IRSDEUN assured the National Assembly of its full support in the investigation and prosecution of offenders, saying that it will provide any necessary assistance to ensure that the effort is successful.
“With this move, the National Assembly has demonstrated its commitment to protecting the lives of Nigerians and promoting the development of the steel industry”.
