The Transition Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk has expressed unreserved gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria for always honouring the fallen heroes and remembering their widows for the premium sacrifice they paid at different times to ensure peace in the country and the world over.
The chairman made the expression during the Armed forces rememberance Thanksgiving service held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Ikot Anie Itam, Itu LGA on Sunday.
“First, I want to thank the Federal Government of Nigeria, I see today’s service across the entire nation as the Federal Republic of Nigeria Government honouring our fallen heroes, their families.
“Thank you. So, I want to join my voice with the Federal Government to really appreciate the legioners, the widows, the retirees and those who lost their lives for the sake of this country.
“They died that we might live, so as Itu Local Government Council, we really appreciate you. We say your labour of love, your sacrifice shall never be in vain in Jesus’ name. This day is an annual ritual which the Government has set aside to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices of our veterans”. The council boss stated.
Onuk called on Nigerians to show appreciation for the sacrifices of fallen heroes, as they paid for peace and unity of the country, with their very lives.
Inviting all to the main event on Monday, January 15th, the chairman urged: Please come out to Mbak Attai Council Secretariat tomorrow, let us celebrate with them, these two days that the Federal Government has set aside for them. The preceding Sunday which is always for the Thanksgiving and 15th of every month which is always for the parade and other activities”.
He thanked the church for opening their doors to host the year’s thanksgiving service of the armed forces rememberance day.
“I’m talking as a Presbyterian, I join my voice with the past speakers to really appreciate God for this church. It’s an opportunity, it’s a gift on its own. God is glorified.
“Let me, very importantly, also appreciate the various heads of security that are present here today, some in representative capacities, some by themselves using them as contact to the rest of them. You’re very much welcome. Tomorrow we’ll have a better outing than today”. He promised.
