Nationnewslead reports that The International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo, Kwara State, has initiated moves toward consummating a partnership with The Federal Polytechnic Offa. This was at the instance of a visit by the Management team of the College to the Polytechnic, led by the College Rector, Dr. Ade Somide.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Lateef Olatunji, appreciates the management of IVTEC for the very important visit, adding that the partnership move is coming at the right time as the Polytechnic has been thriving in partnership and collaborations since the commencement of the current administration.

Dr. Olatunji further reiterates that the institution has become the most sought after, as well as the fastest growing Polytechnic in Nigeria, with many laudable achievements among which includes; producing over 100 PhD holders as staff, being the best affiliate Polytechnic in Nigeria according to NUC ratings, having the best result among Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)’s IJMB Centers, to mention but few. Olatunji therefore, congratulates the IVTEC Management for taking the right decision towards achieving excellence in the college.

In his speech, the Rector of IVTEC, Dr. Somide who led the 3-man delegates to the Polytechnic enumerates the essence of the visit as; to partner with the Polytechnic in the area of student referrals for National Innovative Diploma (NID) (a 2-year programme); to allow NID holders have seamless admission into the Polytechnic’s HND programmes; to encourage part-time/adjunct and visiting lectureship between the two institutions; to explore partnership with the School of Hospitality Management of the Polytechnic; and to discover any other areas of mutual interest.

Dr. Somide also opined that this collaboration is very important at this time as it would bring a higher standard of education for both institutions.

Also speaking at the event, Chairman Governing Council of IVTEC, Alh. Yekini Debo Bukoye, reassured the Polytechnic Management that the partnership would be of mutual benefit and that he would dedicate his time, resources, and wealth of experience to make this partnership a huge success.

Responding on behalf of the Polytechnic, the Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), Dr. Kenneth Unuafe, said that this venture would be great for the institutions. As he is looking beyond the ordinary to see the possibility of interested Polytechnic students also bagging the NID certificates in the relevant courses of their choice.

Unuafe suggests that students of IVTEC should take the compulsory eight unit course in Skills Acquisition, which has become the norm in all tertiary institutions in line with the Federal Government’s resolve to eradicate unemployment among graduates.

While giving the vote of thanks, the Registrar, Mr. Adetunji Oni, appreciates the IVTEC team for seeing excellence in the Polytechnic, stating that both institutions will work in synergy to ensure great success.

The Polytechnic Rector however said that IVTEC should submit a formal proposal after which a Technical Committee will be set up immediately to look into the possibility of the collaboration.
