The regent of Iworoko-Ekiti in Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Princess Bolanle Ogundola, has appealed to the state government to help in the speeding up of the process leading to the appointment of a substantive traditional ruler for the community.

The Alaworoko stool had been vacant since 2019 following the demise of Oba Olufemi Aladejana.

The regent spoke during a courtesy visit to the state deputy governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye in Ado-Ekiti, alongside the President, Iworoko Progressive Union, Tajudeen Fatayo.

Princess Ogundana appealed to the state government to dismantle all obstacles and install a substantive monarch so that she can reunite with her family.

The regent and the stakeholders from the community also appealed to the government to expedite action on the relocation of the Iworoko Ekiti Central market to checkmate recurrent road accidents causing deaths of innocent citizens.

While lamenting how 15 persons were killed when a truck rammed into the market in 2019, they informed the government that land had been identified as new site for the market in the community.

Responding, the deputy governor assured the regent and stakeholders from the community that the state government will support every move towards the appointment and installation of a new Alaworoko

In the request for the installation of a new Alaworoko, whose stool had been vacant for over five years, Mrs Afuye counseled the community against resorting to frivolous legal actions that could stall the selection process.

“Go and do your homework very well, we are ready for you. I learnt that there was controversy over the Iworoko chieftaincy declaration. This will be streamlined and the correction will be done very soon,” she said.

Afuye, in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, explained that the government will soon relocate the market to prevent killings of residents due to frequent accidents in the area.

She disclosed that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is incurably committed to safeguarding the lives of the people, adding that the request for the relocation of the central market causing persistent carnages was long overdue.

She said; “Let me sympathise with you on behalf of Governor Biodun Oyebanji on the deaths of your indigenes who lost their lives in road accident that occurred inside the market. I think it had occurred almost four times in five years. This is unacceptable.

“I learnt that the House of Assembly had passed a resolution advising that the market should be relocated, which further signified how significant the relocation is.

“I will convey your message to Governor Oyebanji and I know something will be done urgently to salvage the situation.”
