The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduling of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 affected candidates across Lagos and the South-East.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced the development during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, stating that technical hitches at several CBT centres compromised the integrity of the earlier tests conducted.

Oloyede disclosed that 206,610 candidates from 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 candidates from 92 centres across the five South-East states were affected.

“We sincerely apologise to the affected candidates and their families. I take full responsibility for the shortcomings, and we are doing everything to rectify the situation promptly,” Oloyede said. “The affected candidates will start receiving text messages for rescheduled exams starting from tomorrow.”

On Thursday morning, some candidates confirmed receiving new exam slips indicating new dates and venues.

One such slip sighted by our correspondent showed a candidate in Lagos rescheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 12 noon in a centre located in the Igando area of Alimosho Local Government.

The board emphasised its readiness to ensure that all candidates get a fair opportunity to sit for the examination without further disruptions.

While reiterating JAMB’s commitment to transparency, the registrar urged the public to remain calm and support the process, noting that lessons have been learned to prevent future recurrence.

This year’s UTME has seen mounting complaints over poor coordination and technical flaws, prompting reactions from stakeholders including student unions and academic bodies.

More details are expected as the rescheduling continues in phases across the affected zones.
