The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s tertiary admission process, warning newly established and upgraded institutions against carrying out illegal admissions.

At an interactive session held in Abuja with principal officers of these institutions, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stressed that all admissions must go through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), and any deviation would not be regularised by the board.

Oloyede made it clear on Monday that admissions conducted outside the established digital platform would be considered invalid.

“CAPS ensures transparency, fairness, and integrity in admissions. Any institution attempting to bypass this platform risks nullifying such admissions,” he warned.

He further emphasised that JAMB is not against the expansion of tertiary institutions but insisted that due process must be followed.

“We welcome growth in the education sector, but it must not come at the cost of order and credibility,” he said.

He disclosed that over 80 institutions recently approved by the Federal Government had been provided with CAPS and IBASS accounts but reminded them that only programmes cleared by the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) would be activated.

“JAMB will provide full technical support, but compliance is non-negotiable. Institutions must avoid shortcuts. There’s no justification for admitting students through the backdoor,” Oloyede added.

The session also featured a live demonstration of CAPS and IBASS to help the institutions understand the operational structure of both platforms.

Heads of the institutions expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and insightful.
