The Jigawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has received federal government palliatives on behalf of Christians in the state and has flagged off the distribution at its secretariat in Dutse, the state capital.
During the flag-off ceremony, the Chairman of CAN, Reverend Father Maurice Kalu, stated that the association would maintain its adopted sharing formula by distributing the items among its five blocks, as well as the Women and Youth Groups of the association.
The CAN Chairman, represented by the association’s Secretary-General, Rev. Panu Panti Gidion, noted, “We have gathered here to distribute the federal government palliatives received through the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to our members.”
The Secretary-General explained, “We received three different food items, which include millet, sorghum, and maize, from the federal government through the Jigawa State government, and SEMA delivered them to us.”
Panu Panti Gidion stated that they were allocated a total of 50 bags of millet, 50 bags of maize, and 50 bags of sorghum, all weighing 50 kg, making a total of 150 bags.
According to him, “In an effort to ensure the assistance reaches all members, we have shared the items equally among the recognized groups that make up the structure of the association.
“These groups are the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN), Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), TEKAN/ECWA, Women Wing Christian Association, and Youth Wing Christian Association.”
“All the executive members of the respective groups are invited and are here to witness and receive their allocated shares, which are distributed equally.
“The blocks that make up the CAN structure will further distribute the items received to all the churches under their respective blocks,” Gideon emphasised.
He expressed appreciation to the federal government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Jigawa State government, and Governor Malam Umar Namadi for the gesture.
The Christian Association also extended special appreciation to the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Auwalu Danladi Sankara, for his hard work and selfless performance in the distribution of palliatives and all his official duties. “Everyone can testify to that. Thank you, Honourable Commissioner.”
Speaking while receiving the food assistance, the Secretary of the Women Wing of the Christian Association, Mrs. Deborah Maina, thanked the federal and state governments for considering their association.
Deborah added, “The items may not be much, but the spirit behind them is really significant, and we deeply appreciate it. We are asking for more, and we will prioritise widows and the less privileged among us.”
In his part, the Chairman of the Youth Wing of CAN, Stephen Bashiru Oladeji, applauded the government for its support to Nigerians and ordinary people during these difficult times.
