The Governor-elect of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has contradicted the recent National Data Health Survey (NDHS) report that classified Jigawa State as one of the poorest states in the country.

During a press briefing after receiving reports from some of the subcommittees of the state government transition committee, Namadi expressed his disagreement with the report, stating that it does not reflect the reality on the ground.

Namadi argued that the incumbent government had invested billions of Naira in empowerment programs, job creation, and other poverty eradication initiatives, resulting in a reduction of poverty levels in the state.

He acknowledged that poverty remains a challenge in the state and added that he has included a “war against poverty” as one of his 12-point agendas.

“We will continue building the purchasing power of our people, create a more enabling environment for investors, and translate demands for more production, which will lead to growth and sustainable economic development,” Namadi said, emphasizing his commitment to continue with all good policies and programs initiated by the previous administration for the social and economic development of the state.

Namadi also highlighted the role played by the federal and state governments, as well as other partners, in reducing poverty levels and improving the purchasing power of the people.

“As a result of a series of interventions from federal state government and other partners, the level of poverty in the state has reduced and the purchasing power of people was improved,” he said.
