Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi has said that the state’s Tsangaya Schools law would be signed into law to redesign the Almajiri education system to include Western education at Tsangaya Schools (Almajiri’s local education system).

The governor made the disclosure in a speech delivered during the graduation ceremony of 905 students who memorized the Holy Quran, organized by the Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam Foundation at Malam Aminu Kano Triangle in Dutse, the state capital.

Malam Umar Namadi, who was represented by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, explained that the executive bill had already been passed by the state’s Assembly and would soon be signed into law by the governor.

According to him, “Education is one of the 12-point agenda of Malam Umar Namadi’s administration. Since the inception of this government, a lot has been achieved in the educational sector, including Islamic education sections.”

The Secretary to the State Government noted that “in line with Malam Namadi’s effort to improve Islamic education and Holy Quran recitation among the younger ones, an executive Tsangaya Education bill has been transmitted to the State House of Assembly. It has already been passed into law and will be signed into law.”

He maintained that under the law, Tsangaya Schools would be modernized to introduce Western education to Almajiri, and certificates would be issued to attendees in accordance with the provisions of the law.

In his part, the National Chairman of the Izalatulbidi’a, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, commended the Jigawa State Government and the Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam Foundation for their efforts in promoting education.

Sheikh Bala Lau appealed to the government and parents to support their children and wards in pursuing education and Islamic education and memorizing the Holy Quran, saying, “It will purify their hearts, and positively guide their behavior and conduct.”

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Jigawa State Council of Ulmas, Dr. Abdulkadir Sale Kazaure, said that the Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam Foundation has branches across the country where it teaches and helps students, both male and female, to memorize the Holy Quran at a tender age.

He disclosed that “on this occasion, we are witnessing the Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam Foundation graduating 905 students drawn from all its centers across the country.”
