Jigawa state governor, Malam Umar Namadi had received the state’s federal government’s share of food items promised by President Bola Tinubu to ease the hardship experienced in the country.
The governor also flags off the distribution of palliative immediately to 28,700 widows and vulnerable people across the 27 local government areas in the state.
Speaking while launching of the exercise, governor Malam Umar Namadi said the food items are parts of Jigawa state allocation by the Federal government under the leadership of President Tinubu.
Malam Umar Namadi said the state received 59,000 bags of 25kg of Rice and other assorted grains to be distributed to the less privileged persons in the 287 political wards of the state.
He said the assorted food items delivered by the Federal Government included 13,825 bags of sorghum, 9,500 bags of Millet, 11500 bags of Maize and 24,000 bags of rice.
According to him, “To ensure we reached more households the state government has top-off with 23,000 cartons of Spaghetti 5,000 bags rice, 500 bags of sorghum and 5,000 bags of Maize respectively”.
Governor Namadi said in consideration of the present condition, the state government would takes responsibility for delivering all items to all the local government areas and give a token of N2,000 to each beneficiary as a transport fee.
In his parts, the state Commissioner for special duties Hon Auwal Danladi Sankara said the beneficiaries were selected from all the 27 local government areas in the state.
Honourable Auwalu noted that the distribution of the palliative items delivered by the Federal Government was launched in Dutse and would be continued at the remaining 26 local areas.
Sankara added that “this is the continuation of series of palliative and empowerment packages embarked by Governor Malam Umar Namadi in which so far over 3 million people were directly benefited in the state since his inception into office “.
According to him, the stakeholders committee were formed to ensure the equally distribution of the items to each local government, and other specified beneficiary bodies and organisations as directed by the Federal Government.
“We selected 100 beneficiaries from each political ward and all necessary logistics and preparations were made to ensure the success of the exercise within short period of time”.
The commissioner stated that each package contained one bag of 25kg of Rice, 12 pieces of Spaghetti, one bag of 10kg of Meize and Sorghum and Mullet.
In her speech the Director General National Emergency Management Agency Hajiya Zubaida Umar ,who was represented by NEMA Zonal Director Dr Nura Abdullahi said, Federal Government released 42,000 metric tones Maize Millet rice and sageum from the national food reserve for distribution across the country.
She commended Jigawa state for timely action in distributing the item which was aimed at reducing the hardship faced by people across the nation, and described Jigawa state Emergency Response System as worth emulation for other states.
