The Odionwere (Head) of Obagie Village along Upper Ekehuan Road in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Pa. Stephen Oyenmwense, has appealed to all members of the community to join hands with him and elders towards moving Obagie forward developmentally.
Oyenmwense, who made the appeal on Saturday during an enlarged meeting of people of the village, also extended hands of fellowship to some aggrieved members of the community, saying that the community belongs to all sons and daughters of Obagie.
He briefed members of the community about the legal battle which culminated to his recently installation as the village head of Obagie, stressing that the battle spanned over 12 years in court.
The Odionwere further commended the people for standing by him throughout his legal battle with the opposition and for standing for the truth which he opined came to light on May 8, 2024.
The new head of Obagie assured the people that his installation as head of the village will, no doubt, bring rapid development, progress and peace to the people of Obagie.
He, therefore, appealed to the people to shun violence and embrace peace at all times in line with the position of the Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.
“We are for reconciliation and peace in Obagie. I want to use this medium to advise every indigene and resident of Obagie village not to indulge in any secret gang up against the community, as crisis will not breed development and progress in Obagie.
“We need to work in one accord for the progress of our community. No public utilities, no school, hospital, heath centre and market, hence we need to work in unionism to achieve the above.
Oyenmwense, in agreement with elders and people of the village during the enlarged meeting reaffirmed Mr. Charles Ugbogbo and appointed Mr. Erhun Amenaghawon as secretary and youth leader (Okaghele) of the community respectively.
In the separate remarks, Mr. Ugbogbo and Amenaghawon, thanked the Odionwere and elders of the community for the confidence reposed in them, promising to carry out their duties in line with the directives of the Odionwere, elders of Obagie, tradition and custom of Benin Kingdom.
