The Forum of Tiv Political Appointees in Taraba State has expressed deep concern over the recent crisis between the Jukun and Tiv communities in Wukari Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the Chairman, Hon. Philip Iyorpenda Ananum, and Secretary, Hon. Kurason Kira, the Forum condemned the unfortunate incident and called on all parties involved to embrace peace in the interest of development and unity.
The group emphasised that Governor Agbu Kefas, a well-known expert in conflict management and a highly intelligent leader, is fully on top of the situation. It appealed to both the Jukun and Tiv communities to give the Governor a chance to resolve the crisis amicably.
“At this moment, Taraba State does not need any form of crisis. What we need is unity and peace to allow Governor Kefas to focus on delivering good governance to all citizens,” the statement read.
The Forum further observed that both the Tiv and Jukun are predominantly farmers whose livelihoods depend heavily on access to land and a peaceful environment.
Continuous clashes, it said, are not only affecting their economic activities but also creating a vacuum that is being exploited by criminal elements and herders, who are taking advantage of the disunity to destroy farmlands and sow seeds of discord between the two communities.
“We must not allow external forces to divide us. The Jukun and Tiv have lived together for generations and share deep cultural and economic ties. It is time to return to dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence,” the statement added.
The Forum reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas and pledged its continued support for his administration’s peace-building and development initiatives.
