Security operatives at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja dispersed protesters and journalists with gunshots, causing chaos and panic.
The operatives, suspected to be from the Department of State Services, fired sporadically at protesters who were reconvening after an initial dispersal.
As protesters ran for cover, some security operatives chased them into nearby bushes. Meanwhile, other masked operatives targeted journalists who were reporting from a separate location.
According to one of the journalists at the scene, “We fled in fear, scrambling into available vehicles to escape the gunfire.”
Bullets pierced a car conveying journalists from Premium Times, The Cable, Peoples Gazette, and The PUNCH at three different locations.
