The Digital Innovation Park in Kano, slated for launch next week, has been set ablaze and looted by protesters.
The facility, designed to support the technical talent accelerator (3MTT) and host various tech programs for youth, was severely damaged, resulting in millions of Naira in losses.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced this in a post on his personal handle on X on Thursday amid the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest.
The Minister lamented that the incident is a significant setback for efforts to deepen the workforce for technology and create job opportunities for young people in the region.
“We are saddened by this senseless act of destruction,” said [Name], founder of 3MTT. “Our mission to empower the youth with technological skills and create a brighter future has been temporarily derailed. But we will not be deterred.”
“The Digital Innovation Park was set to host a buildathon holiday maker program for secondary school kids starting next week. The program aimed to introduce young minds to technology and innovation.”
“This is a huge loss for our community. We were looking forward to the opportunities this facility would bring. We hope the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he added.
