Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, in his determination to transform the education sector, has distributed 789,000 school uniforms to pupils in 7,092 public schools across the state’s 44 local government areas.
This was just as he stated that the distribution aims to create a dignified and inclusive learning environment for all children in the state.

The Governor, while speaking during the distribution ceremony, reaffirmed his commitment to overhauling Kano’s education system.
According to him, the gesture was a cornerstone of the administration’s strategy to improve access to quality education.
He added, “This is just the beginning. After providing these uniforms, we will continue to equip our schools with additional resources to improve learning conditions.”
Governor Yusuf emphasised that in addition to the uniforms, the state government has distributed 53,000 desks to schools, addressing infrastructure challenges that have hindered effective teaching and learning for years.
The initiative has been widely lauded as a game-changer for education in Kano, with stakeholders praising its potential to boost school enrolment, enhance retention, and instil a sense of pride and equality among pupils.
Governor Yusuf’s intervention reflects his administration’s resolve to leave no child behind in the pursuit of quality education, marking a new chapter for Kano’s education sector.
However, the State Commissioner for Education, Dr Haruna Ali Makoda, said the present improvement in the educational sector under the leadership of Governor Yusuf is a pragmatic effort to reposition the already battered education system by the previous administration.
Dr Makoda emphasised that it was on record that when Governor Yusuf assumed office in 2023, hundreds of pupils in primary schools were sitting on bare floors to receive learning.
But with the efforts of this present administration, desks and tables were procured and given to primary schools, adding that this gesture has paved the way for many pupils to receive education in a conducive manner.
Dr Makoda also stated that the provision of a free bus tagged “girl child bus,” which is basically to convey girls to their respective schools, has gone a long way in enhancing girls’ enrolment in schools.
The State Commissioner noted that all these developmental projects recorded in the educational sector are just the tip of the iceberg of what Governor Yusuf has in mind to boost education further.
Dr Makoda urged the teeming masses of the state to rally around Governor Yusuf in his efforts to rewrite the wrongs committed by past administrations in squandering huge amounts that should have been spent on enhancing the standard of education.
