The incoming governor-elect of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his transition committee have raised alarm over the alleged sale of government property by the outgoing governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

According to the committee, the Kano State Public Procurement Bureau office, also known as the Due Process Office, located on State Road, was sold to Ganduje’s son for a paltry sum of N10 million. The property was later resold for over N300 million.

Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the chairman of the Recovery of Public Assets Subcommittee of the NNPP Gubernatorial Transition, who led other members of the committee to the site, expressed concern over the alleged sale of government properties.

He stated that the incoming administration would not only recover these properties but would also prosecute those found guilty of their sale.

“We are deeply worried by the manner in which the outgoing administration is mortgaging the common franchise of the good people of Kano State.

This act is akin to vandalism of every structure of governance. This is not what is expected of a government that was given the opportunity to rule the state for eight years,” Bichi said.

He further alleged that the Due Process Office was sold for less than N10 million, and Ganduje’s son later sold it for over N300 million, describing it as the most unfortunate destruction of public property that anyone could ever imagine.

“We feel that you are literally giving him the place free of charge and asking him to go and get a buyer,” Bichi added.

However, when contacted, the State Attorney General, Musa Abdullahi Lawal, stated that he was not aware of the transaction and could not comment on what he didn’t know.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mallam Mohammed Garba, also stated that he was not aware of the transaction but promised to make inquiries and get back to the press.

Dr Bichi warned that the real game would start on May 29, insinuating that the incoming government would investigate all properties sold by the outgoing administration and recover any that were not legally sold.
