Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed his displeasure over the release of some political thugs who were detained for various criminal activities in the state.

The Governor described it as an act of sabotage against the state and vowed to deploy necessary mechanisms to recapture those fueling political thuggery in Kano.

Making this known while receiving the Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero, who was at the Government House on the occasion of ‘Hauwa Nassarawa’, a traditional Sallah homage to the Governor, he disclosed how a number of “political thugs” who were arrested and charged with prosecution suddenly escaped judicial prosecution.

Although the Governor was not categorical, he accused the opposition political party of securing the release of the accused from custody.

“When we came to power, we met high security threats. Acts of political thuggery were the order of the day. Snatching of phones and personal property in the metropolis. Thugs stabbed innocent people simply to steal their phones. However, God in His infinite mercy gave us the grace and we ended it in less than 10 months. Now, thuggery across the eight metropolitan areas has been degraded by 90 per cent.

“Unfortunately, during the just-concluded Ramadan, we had an incidence of some miscreants who went to invade a mosque in Dorayi, injured worshippers, and snatched their phones,” he said.

He further disclosed that the security also arrested some political thugs recently for criminal offenses and charged them to court for prosecution. “Suddenly, the opposition party went ahead to secure their release. But I can assure you that we would not condone any act of security threat in Kano,” Yusuf vowed.

On the recent establishment of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, Governor Yusuf declared that the intent was to unravel injustice and recover illegally sold public property. Contrary to insinuation, however, Governor Yusuf insisted the inquiry was not meant to witch-hunt any personality or opposition party.

He further disclosed plans of his administration to propel socio-economic and infrastructural development, adding that the N24 billion flyovers commissioned at Dan’agundi and Talihudu areas will commence in the next few weeks.

Earlier, in his homage message, Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, condemned political thuggery and criminal activities witnessed recently, charging security apparatus to redouble efforts to nip the ugly trend in the bud.

The monarch, however, commended government efforts to ameliorate the suffering of the masses arising from the high cost of living emanating from the removal of fuel subsidy.

Alh. Bayero essentially commended Governor Yusuf on the distribution of palliatives, empowerment, and development in education, health, and road construction.
