Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has called on donor agencies co-funding projects in the state to report any breaches they observe in the implementation of such projects for necessary action.
He made the call on Monday in a keynote address at the inauguration of a programme on the effective utilisation of international development funds for project execution in the state.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Yusuf, his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, emphasised the government’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption.
He urged donor agencies to directly report any observed anomalies regarding project execution to him to enable prompt action.
“This administration is determined to ensure accountability and the prompt execution of projects to enable the people of the state to benefit from them,” Sagagi said.
Earlier, the convener of the event and Accountant General of Kano State, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, stated that the gathering aimed to bring together stakeholders and implementing partners to work together for the full utilisation and effective implementation of international development funds.
This collaboration is intended to achieve the deliverables of the projects within the constraints of time, cost, and scope.
Abdulsalam disclosed that the state had released about N600 million as counterpart funding for new projects based on their needs and effective implementation, directly benefiting the citizens of the state.
“We have learned that international development funds, which we call capital receipts in our yearly budgets, constitute about 30 per cent of our yearly budgets.
“These funds are not grants; most of them are loans to the state. Therefore, we ensure value for money and the effective utilisation and implementation of these projects within the project constraints of cost, scope, and time,” he said.
Some of the projects focus on improving water supply, agriculture, food security, climate change, degradation of rural areas, education, sanitation, rural access roads, and healthcare services, among others.
