The Kano Hisbah Board has said that the agency has arrested a heavy truck driver and two others with truckloads of over 24,000 bottles of beer in its attempt to enter the state capital.

Hisbah board is an organisation created by the state government and saddled with responsibility and empowered by law to guide against any act contrary to Islamic law, of which prohibition of any alcoholic is included

However, the Acting Assistant Commander General of the Intelligent Crimes Dispatch Unit of the board, Malam Fu’ad Dorayi, who disclosed this, also narrated his ordeal with the driver of the heavy truck before it finally succeeded in apprehending him and two others.

According to him, the owner of the goods fled in the process and, after attempting to bribe its personnel, resisted.

“The culprits were four, including the driver of the heavy truck containing over 24,000 bottles of assorted beers. Others were the owners of the goods and two others.”

The owner of the goods fled after attempting to bribe us but was not successful. So he pretended he wanted to pick something, and in the process, he fled.

He also hinted that, at “a point, the driver complained that one thing or another was faulty with the vehicle, but we finally succeeded in apprehending him and two others.”

He therefore called on the residents to always report any vehicles carrying suspected products to the Hisbah Board, particularly along Kano/Zaria Road, Kano/Dayi Malumfashi Road, Kano/Katsina Road, Kano/Maiduguri Road, and Kano/Hadejia Road, among others.

Speaking in the same vein, the Director General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Alhaji Abba Sa’id Sufi, while inspecting the confiscated truck containing over 24,000 bottles of assorted beer at the premises of the board’s headquarters, vowed to remain focused and not deviate from the fight against the smuggling of beers into the state capital through the neighbouring states.

He commended the efforts of his corps in the state for their collaborative effort with the other stakeholders in the fight against the smuggling of beer into the state.

“Hisbah Corps in the state have been up and doing to enforce the zero-tolerance smuggling of beer and intoxicated substances into Kano State along its neighbouring states’ borders,” he said.
