Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has approved Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya as the new chairman of the party in Kano.
This was after a vigil held by its members, a state congress conducted by delegates.
Recall that the party had been without executive members for over two years, leaving them without leadership.
Alhaji Kibiya, who served as Commissioner for Agriculture under Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso from 1999-2003, emerged victorious in the election results announced on Sunday by Halilu Abubakar Mazagani, chairman of the election committee from the party’s national headquarters.
Kibiya secured a landslide victory, garnering 3,964 votes to defeat his opponent, Nura Nuhu, who scored 244 votes.
Barrister Abdul Fatah Muhammad administered the oath of office to the 39 newly elected state party leaders, including Hon. Kibiya.

Professor Umar Faruk Jibril, the publicity secretary of the state congress, expressed optimism about the party’s future, noting that the newly elected executives will ensure the PDP continues to grow stronger.
He emphasized the need to reposition and restructure the party in line with its constitution.
Professor Faruk also dismissed rumors of factionalism within the party, stating, “We don’t have time for any crisis now because we would be at the receiving end.
“We are competing to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and we cannot do that if we are weak internally.”
Senator Hayatou Gwarzo, a PDP chieftain, declared that the party is determined to capture the central government in 2027.
He added that Nigerians are unhappy with the current economic challenges under the APC and believe the PDP is the only party capable of addressing the people’s aspirations for positive change.
With prayers, unflinching support, and concerted efforts, Senator Gwarzo expressed confidence that the PDP would form the government in 2027.
