The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has announced a rescheduling of the local government elections from November 30, 2024, to October 26, 2024.
Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, Chairman of KANSIEC, made the announcement on Friday during a press conference held at the commission’s office.
He explained that the adjustment was made to align Kano’s election date with other states that are set to complete their local government council elections by the end of October.
The decision to move the election date is also in response to recent Supreme Court rulings and the mutual agreement between state and federal governments regarding local government financial autonomy.
Professor Malumfashi noted that the change was necessitated by the need to adhere to these legal and administrative requirements.
“The commission has also adjusted all related arrangements in light of this new schedule. We recognise the importance of aligning with national standards and timelines,” he said.
Professor Malumfashi urged all stakeholders to understand the necessity of this change and to continue providing their support and cooperation.
