THE spate of kidnapping appears to be growing with more such incidents occurring on a daily basis.
In separate incidents, an unspecified number of passengers travelling between Ekiti and Ondo States have been reportedly kidnapped by some gunmen who laid siege on the road.
The victims were said to have been abducted in the incident took place between Ikere Ekiti and Iju axis of Ondo State.
At the scene of the incident two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a white Highlander, were seen on the road. A video of the abandoned and bullet-rid vehicles is being circulated on social media.
A source in the area, confirmed that the incident happened on Thursday night, saying the two vehicles were intercepted and the drivers forced to stop.
The source said: “The kidnappers might have marched them into the bush. The incident happened in the evening and it came to our knowledge on Friday morning when we saw the vehicles riddled with bullets.”
He, however, said the incident had been reported to the police in the area and they had visited the scene of the incident.
Though the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident, she said the command cannot confirm the number of people involved in the incident.
She explained that men of the anti kidnapping section of the command have swung into action immediately the incident was reported, adding that “they have combing the forest since.”
She also noted that there was no official report from the family or families of the owners of the vehicles, adding that there was no report of missing people in the state.
While noting that it was unclear that the kidnappers had contacted the family members for ransom, the police image maker, however, assured that the command would soon unravel what took place and rescue the victims if it was a case of abduction.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that men of the Amotekun in the state had started tracking the kidnappers as some operatives had been deployed to the forest since Friday morning.

When contacted at the time of filing this report, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, said: “Let me find out and get back.”
