A governorship aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Kogi state and deputy publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka on Tuesday commended the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele for laying to rest the controversy that trailed the introduction and implementation of the naira redesign policy of the CBN, by obeying the supreme Court judgement extending the dateline for the usage of the old naira notes.

The decision to obey the Apex court’s judgement according to the deputy publicity secretary comes as a great relief to the Nigerian people and a victory for the rule of law.

In the statement made available to newsmen and personally signed by him, Ajaka lauded the “Nigerian electorate for their resilience and understanding during this period and the confidence they have in the rule of law while this avoidable challenges lasted and also believing in the ruling party by still voting for its Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the most transparent, free and fair election ever had in Nigeria as the President-elect of the country.”

While commending the CBN for its resolve to obey the rule of law, he advised it to move to the next step by ensuring that its directives on compliance with the Supreme Court judgment are effectively carried out by ensuring sufficient availability of naira notes (whether old or new) and proper sensitization of the public on the ruling and the consequent validity of the old naira notes as still a legal tender.

The governorship hopeful went further to salute the courage of the governors, “especially the progressives governors in the APC, who acted on behalf of the Nigerian people to save the country from avoidable and dangerous political crisis and social unrest which the new CBN policy on new naira redesign brought to the country. Insisting that the country was dangerously careering towards anarchy and political and economic shutdown but with their intervention and the ruling of the Supreme Court, the country was pulled back from the precipice.”

He insisted that “we have examples of other countries that have successfully and seemingly changed their currencies to learn from in future because this country gives a long time of at least 12 months to effect the currency change,” adding that “we have seen how a good policy can be poorly implemented and executed to cause unintended problems for the people who should be beneficiaries. While lessons have been learnt, we must now move on as a country and a people with renewed hope for a better Nigeria.”

Ajaka added that the sole aim of the President-elect running to be the President of the country is to make life better and more abundant for all Nigerians, stating that “this is an ideal to which the APC will remain eternally committed.”
