Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has approved subsidising the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for 55,150 students in public schools across the state.

A total of 55,150 candidates are writing the exams in Kwara State.

A statement from the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, issued by the press secretary in the ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, mentioned that all candidates in public schools will pay only N2,500. This amount remains the same as last year, instead of the proposed increase to N5,000 or more, considering inflation and the rising cost of conducting the examination.

The statement emphasized that this subsidy is part of the administration’s efforts to support students and their parents, aiming to prevent any students from dropping out of school due to an inability to afford the examination.

It further stated that the subsidy will be applicable to all candidates sitting for the 2024 BECE.

The statement concluded by warning public officials against extorting money from parents under any guise, noting that anyone caught engaging in such actions will face the consequences.
