The Sokoto State Government has officially handed over a site at Aliyu Jedo Veterinary Hospital to the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) for the construction of a modern veterinary hospital in the state.

This development follows a site visit by a committee set up by the project.

During the signing of the contract between representatives of the state government, L-PRES, and the contractor, Commissioner for the Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development, Aliyu Abubakar Tureta, expressed happiness over the development.

He said the Sokoto State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, is determined to uplift the standard of the livestock sector in the state.

The Commissioner assured the L-PRES project of maximum support and cooperation until the project’s completion.

Earlier, the committee members, led by Mr. Adeoye Wasiyu, a Technician Operations Manager of L-PRES at the national level, stated that this is part of L-PRES’s intervention to provide a conducive environment for veterinarians to enhance their operations and to ensure the well-being of animals brought in daily for medical checkups.

He said the contract was awarded to Asaj Project and Services LTD, with a project completion timeline of three months.

Following the visit, the delegation proceeded to Wamakko Local Government to inspect the proposed site of the Livestock Service Center.

Receiving the delegation, the Sole Administrator of the local government, Alhaji Buba Kaurar Kimba, expressed happiness over L-PRES’s choice of the area for this significant project and promised support to achieve the desired goals.

The team leader, Mr. Adeoye Wasiyu, stated that they were assessing the site’s suitability for this project.

According to him, besides Sokoto, there are almost 12 states competing to secure the Livestock Service Center, considering its importance to livestock farmers and by extension providing job opportunities to teeming youth in the area and even beyond, if granted.

The team members includes Conflict Mitigation Specialist Dr. Nazifi Ibrahim Wada, Tayo Okewoye Technical Operations Officer, M@E Officer Asma’u Abdullahi along with commissioner Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development Sokoto, Permanent Secretary, Directors, State Project Coordinator Sirajo Abubakar and L-PRES PIU Staff took time to toured the site and make suggestions, clarifications and observations where necessary.
