Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday ratified the suspension of its Chairman, Philip Aivoji and his Deputy, Benedict Felix Tai.

The duo, it would be recalled were earlier suspended by their Ward executives over alleged anti-party activities a few weeks ago, a move which the party chieftains had since proceeded to challenge in court.

The State Working Committee (SWC) of PDP, at its meeting on Tuesday, said it took the decision to allow Aivoji and Tai to concentrate on their court case, adding that they were not to appear before the disciplinary committee.

It, however, directed the Vice Chairman, West Senatorial District of the party, Hon. Sunday Olaifa, to assume the office of the Chairman pending the outcome of the court case in an acting capacity, being the Vice Chairman from the Senatorial District of Aivoji.

Besides, the State Working Committee (SWC) also set up a 7-member Disciplinary Committee to investigate anti-party activities levelled against some leaders and members of the party during the last governorship election.

Spokesperson of the party, Hon. Hakeem Amode, confirmed the development in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, saying that the decisions were taken at a meeting convened by the SWC to deliberate on saving the soul of the PDP in Lagos state.

He explained that the SWC took the decision to allow Aivoji and Felix-Tai to concentrate on their Court case, adding that they were not to appear before the Disciplinary Committee.

This was just as he noted that the setting up of the disciplinary committee was in accordance with Section 57, Sub-section 1 and 2 of the PDP constitution, even as disclosed that the 7-member committee will be headed by Chief Abayomi Kuye, while members include Alhaji Isiaka Shodiya, Princess M. A. Coker popularly known as Iya Ni Wura, Kayode Ariwayo, Femi Oluokun, Segun Oriyomi, with Barr. Esther Edesiri Egbi is the secretary.

“Please note that the action taken by the State Working Committee was done in accordance with the PDP constitution to rebuild and reposition PDP in Lagos state,” he said.

According to Amode, the post-election Disciplinary Committee is expected to report back to the SWC in one week.
