The Lagos State Police Command anti-bomb squad says it foiled an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in the Ikeja area of the State.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this on Wednesday.

According to him, a vigilant police officer reported that a young man had alighted from the car, carefully dropped a bag by the side of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence, returned to the vehicle, and sped off.

Hundeyin said the area was immediately cordoned off while the IED experts were deployed to the spot.

He further disclosed that the IED was taken to a safe distance where it was detonated around 4 pm.

“A vigilant police officer reported a suspicious white Corolla car parked near the gate of PMF 23 Barracks, with a young man dropping a bag by the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence before he zoomed off.”

“Based on the report, a team of EOD-CBRN personnel was quickly mobilised to the scene to identify the object and render it safe if confirmed to be an IED. Upon arrival, the object was discovered to be an IED, and the area was subsequently cordoned off. Standard operating procedures were adopted, and the IED was rendered safe and taken to a safe distance for detonation,” Hundeyin disclosed.

He further assured the public that the area was calm afterwards.
