At least seven loggers were reportedly killed and several others injured after their vehicle hit landmines in Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State, on Saturday.

The incident took place around 11 a.m. between Masunfanari and Dogo Wire village along the Maiduguri-Damboa road.

A security source told Daily Trust that the pickup truck struck an improvised explosive device (IED), suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents.

“At least seven persons died instantly, and others were wounded. The firewood sellers were on their way to fell firewood before the incident,” the source reported, adding that the vehicle was destroyed beyond repair.

An eyewitness, Bukar Modu, stated that he counted seven bodies brought to the Sulumari area in the state capital before they were buried.

“The funeral of the victims was conducted at Masinrimari area in Maiduguri around 4pm according to Islamic rites. Seven persons were killed, including the driver and other firewood sellers,” Modu disclosed.
