The remains of Ulonna Inyama, the late Registrar of Wigwe University, Isiokpo, Rivers State, were laid to rest on Friday in her hometown, Itu, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
The burial, conducted in line with Catholic tradition, was attended by family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Inyama passed away on July 27, 2024, in Abuja after a brief illness. She was 41.
At the funeral, her sister and senior NAN staff member, Mrs Ugonne Uzoma, delivered a heartfelt tribute, describing Ulonna as a mentor, confidant, and epitome of kindness and compassion.
Uzoma said, “This loss has shattered me, and my grief is palpable; she was a definition of class and excellence who supported and loved us all, unconditionally. I look forward to the resurrection morning when I shall see my big sister again.”
The deceased’s mother, Mrs Scholastica Inyama, also spoke fondly of her late daughter, describing her as “kind, almost to a fault” and humble despite her brilliance.
She prayed for God’s grace to grant the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
Ulonna Inyama, an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduated with First Class Honours in 2004.
She began her career at the National Universities Commission (NUC), where she served as a quality assurance officer and later rose to become the Executive Assistant to the Executive Secretary.
Inyama contributed to various NUC projects, policies, and committees during her tenure.
She took a leave of absence in 2022 to accept the position of Registrar at Wigwe University, where she also served as Secretary to the Governing Council until her untimely demise.
Her death reportedly followed complications from a blood transfusion.
