Ladoke Akintola University in Oyo State has imposed a new ban on students driving or bringing their cars onto the campus.

The university’s management has also prohibited the use of tinted vehicles by both staff and students. Additionally, the vehicles of beginner drivers must display learner permits.

The decision was reached at a management meeting held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, according to a memo signed by the Registrar of the institution, Kayode Ogunleye.

He stated that the ban on student-owned vehicles entering the campus was necessary due to the high traffic on the campus.

“Vehicles owned by students are hereby banned from entering the university campus. Vehicles with no registration numbers are no longer allowed on campus. Roadside parking of vehicles should stop forthwith,” the memo read.

Furthermore, any unauthorized vehicles parked within the university premises will be removed immediately, with appropriate action taken by the university security.

The use of tinted vehicles by staff and students has also been prohibited, and beginner drivers must display learner permits on their vehicles.

Ogunleye’s memo indicated that the acting vice-chancellor, bursar, university Liberian, provosts and deans, directors, heads of departments/units, and acting head of security unit were all copied in on the decision.

The management has emphasized the need for compliance with the new guidelines, which are aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion on the campus.

The restrictions on student-owned vehicles and tinted vehicles, along with the requirement for beginner drivers to display learner permits, are expected to achieve these objectives.
