Uyo Senatorial District Women stakeholders have expressed appreciation to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for taking women into full recognition as the October 26 date for LG electronics in the state draws near.

The women made their excitement visible during the Stakeholders meeting at the instant of the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Matters, Uyo Senatorial District, Hon. Elsie Esara, held at the Kings and Queens Montessori School Hall, Ewet Housing Estate at the weekend.

Our Correspondent reports that, governor Umo Eno had called for gender inclusiveness in the coming LG electronics in the state, demanding the every state constituency must produce at least one female LG chairman, LGAs with male chairmen must produce female vice chairmen and each LG zone must produce at least one female Councillor.

Speaking at the meeting, the convener, Hon. Esara thanked the governor for considering the women capable of holding positions of huge responsibilities in the state.

She urged the women Stakeholders to be steadfast, strategic in choosing those to serve in their respective state constituencies, LGAs zones and wards, to ensure quality service delivery.

“The governor has done well by recognizing that it is women that make things happen at the grassroots during elections. He has given us slots at all levels of the grassroot government: at the state Constituencies, local governments zones and wards. We have to reciprocate the gesture by sending credible candidates to work.

“Look deep to ensure that the candidate you project for any office is rooted in her ward, LGA and zone and would give good representation when voted into office.

“Everything we are doing as women is targeted at holding the hands of our mother, the wife of the governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno to succeed beyond 2027. We all have to be up and doing to ensure victory for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 26 LG elections”. Esara called.

She however announced plans by the female stakeholders in the state, to commence a tour of the state to sensitize the women on proper conduct and decorum, when seeking an elective position and while in office.

The member representing Uruan State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Itoro Etim (PhD), emphasized on decorum as a virtue that would attract credible women into politics, which hitherto was seen as male dominated venture.

She called on women in politics to show good behavior and be intentional in encouraging younger females to venture into the game and grow in ranks, saying that such growth would see women to the top of the game in no time.

Also speaking, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Obonganwan Grace Ekong, harped on mutual respect, adequate knowledge of politics, self confidence and good listenership, to understand the political terrain and participate strongly during practical politics.

Other speakers preached respect to constituted authority, spouses, mutual understanding, love, unity of purpose and avoiding the unwise decision of the multitude, which most times lead to error.

Attendees at the meeting included: the former SSG, wife of the SSG, female Honorary Special Advisers, female Board chairmen and members, wives of law makers, female law makers, female chairmen, female vice chairmen, female State party executive members, chapter women leaders of the PDP among others.
