Imo LP guber candidate, Maduka, calls for national unity
A former governorship candidate of Labour Party in Imo, Chief Basil Maduka, has emphasised the need for President Bola Tinubu to prioritise national interests over partisan divides.
Reflecting on the current administration’s economic policies and the broader state of the nation, Maduka underscored the importance of collective efforts in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Maduka acknowledged the economic hardships faced by Nigerians and the promises made by President Tinubu upon assuming office.
He stressed that after one year in power, it is crucial to move beyond viewing governance through partisan lenses and embrace a collective responsibility towards national prosperity. Maduka highlighted the role of effective policy implementation and the need for a competent team to drive the president’s initiatives forward.
Discussing the removal of fuel subsidy as a significant policy change, Maduka noted that while it aimed to bolster government revenue, its impact on the populace’s welfare remains a critical concern. He urged President Tinubu to assemble a team of technocrats and experts from diverse backgrounds, transcending party affiliations, to ensure effective governance and inclusive economic growth.
When questioned about the Labour Party’s stance and opposition strategy, particularly regarding criticism of government policies, Maduka emphasized the importance of constructive engagement. He suggested that opposition voices could be more influential if engaged within the government structure rather than from outside, citing the potential for more impactful contributions when part of the decision-making process.
Addressing internal party issues within the Labour Party, Maduka acknowledged ongoing challenges but emphasized that national economic concerns transcend party boundaries.
He called for a unified approach among all stakeholders to tackle inflation, unemployment, and other pressing issues affecting Nigerians daily.
Maduka highlighted his own experiences in international business and expressed readiness to contribute to Nigeria’s economic development. He stressed the importance of attracting foreign investment and promoting Nigeria as a favorable destination for global business interests, independent of party affiliations or personal interests.
Reflecting on his electoral defeat in Imo under the Labour Party, Maduka commended Governor Hope Uzodimma’s efforts in addressing security challenges but called for increased federal support. He acknowledged a shift in his approach towards governance issues, moving from criticism to supporting initiatives that benefit the people of Imo State.
In conclusion, Chief Basil Maduka urged President Tinubu to consider reshuffling his cabinet to enhance performance and ensure alignment with national goals.
He reiterated his commitment to Nigeria’s welfare and development, emphasising the importance of inclusivity and collaboration across all sectors for sustainable progress.
As Nigeria navigates through economic uncertainties and political challenges, Maduka’s call for unity and pragmatic governance serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility towards building a prosperous nation for all Nigerians.
