The recent flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, has brought Nigerians together, transcending political party lines.

Milinda Haske, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno, made this statement on Sunday during a sympathy visit to the Government House.

Haske noted that Nigerians have shown remarkable empathy and solidarity with the flood victims, regardless of their political affiliations. He described this display of unity as a “good omen,” highlighting the unparalleled generosity from across party divides.

During the visit, Haske donated ₦19.5 million to aid those affected by the floods, emphasising the importance of togetherness and national unity.

“The magnitude of destruction is heart-wrenching,” he said. “The loss of lives, properties, and displacement caused by the flood is devastating.”

Haske praised Nigerians, corporate bodies, and individuals for their continued support of the Borno State Government and its people.

“The flood’s impact on rice farms, especially at harvest time, is particularly troubling, but the unity we have seen in the face of this disaster is commendable,” he added.
