The Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties in Nigeria (FNYLPPN) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make the proposed national youths conference an all-inclusive, urging him to involve youth representatives from all political parties in the conference to ensure a productive dialogue.

Describing the proposal as transformative initiative, the group commended the President for the decision to convene a 30-day national youth conference aimed at addressing the critical challenges facing young Nigerians.

The decision to convene the youth confab was disclosed by the President in his Independence Day broadcast to Nigerians, stating that his administration remains mindful of the next generation and seeks to galvanise the youth’s creative energy for a better future.

He added that the planned youth conference would serve as a platform to address the diverse challenges confronting young Nigerians.

According to him, the conference would provoke meaningful dialogue and empower Nigerian youths to participate actively in nation-building by ensuring that their voices were heard in shaping policies that would impact their lives.

The FNYLPPN in a statement made available to Tribune Online stated that the youth conference would provide a unique platform for dialogue and collective action to find solutions to issues affecting the youth across the country.

The statement, which was signed by the Chairman of FNYLPPN, Ambassador Muhammed Auwal Musa, asserted that the conference is coming at a crucial time as Nigeria grapples with economic difficulties, insecurity, and limited youth participation in governance.

Musa, who doubles as the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) National Youth Leader, stated that to ensure a productive dialogue, the Forum emphasised the need for inclusivity.

According to him, “The Forum acknowledges the bold economic reforms that this administration has undertaken. These long-overdue reforms align with global economic standards and represent the most significant economic transformation since Nigeria’s independence.

“However, it is imperative to address the immediate impact on the lives of Nigerians, especially the challenges of hunger and hardship.

“In light of these concerns, FNYLPPN appeals to the Federal Government to restore the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to its full operational capacity.”

He added that the Forum endorses Dr Halima Tejuosho for the leadership of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, stating that her experience, compassion, and administrative skills position her as the ideal candidate to steer the ministry towards achieving its mandate of reducing poverty and providing reliefs to those in need.

The Forum also called on Nigerian youths to actively participate in the forthcoming conference when eventually convened by the Federal Government and warned against any protests that can undermine progress.

It further urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to collaborate closely with civil society groups to prevent unnecessary confrontations during protests.

“FNYLPPN urges all Nigerian youth to participate actively in the upcoming conference. The Forum strongly discourages any form of protest or violence that could undermine the progress that can be achieved through peaceful dialogue.

“Unity, constructive engagement and active participation are essential to bringing about meaningful change in Nigeria,” Musa stated further.
