The All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state has asked Governor Seyi Makinde to desist from embarking on further actions or making unguarded comments capable of inciting the people of Osun state against one another on account of the ongoing crisis over the control of the 30 local government councils in the state.
Both the ruling PDP and the opposition APC have been at each other’s throat in the last two weeks over the Appeal Court’s judgement which voided the sack of the APC officials elected on the Platform of the APC by Gov. Ademola Adeleke in 2022. The Appellate Court ordered the return of the sacked officials to their duty post but this was countered by the PDP administration which sworn-in its own party members on Sunday with a view to putting them the council Secretariats.
In a statement issued on Sunday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC said that Gov. Makinde was in Osogbo on Sunday to participate in the show of shame organised by his party to further undermine the efforts of the Tinubu administration to entrench democracy at the grassroots and also free the third tier of government from the jackboot of some civilian despots.
“As much as we tried not to dabble into the domestic affairs of our sister state, the presence of Gov. Makinde as well as his outburst at the so-called swearing-in ceremony of some lackeys assembled as tools with which the PDP plans to set Osun state on fire on account of self-aggrandizement and lack of basic understanding of the principles of constitutional democracy on the part of Gov. Adeleke.
“We always sympathize with the cosmopolitan people of Osun state each time we remember that a character like Mr. Ademola Adeleke is their governor but we cannot help it even as we look forward to 2026 when he would be sent packing from office and pave the way for a competent hand. Nonetheless, we did not expect the kind of spirited efforts being made by the same Gov. Adeleke and his few supporters to trample upon a verdict of a competent court of law.
“Again, Gov. Makinde cause the good people of the Pacesetter state a lot of embarrassment on Sunday when he joined some anti-democratic forces to make a mockery of constitutional democracy and the rule of law in Osogbo on Sunday. Makinde’s appearance was that of a meddlesome interloper while his unguarded comments were deliberately made to further call out President Bola Tinubu for supporting the cause to free the third tier of government from the grip of state governors who feed fat on the resources meant for the local government councils.
“The build up to, and the manner in which, the charade called local government election which was staged in Osun state at the weekend cleared showed mission to dwarf democracy and the rule of law by some misfits in power. Also, the real enemies of democracy and good governance in the country exposed themselves by joining hands with Gov. Adeleke to assemble a team of desperados with whom he plans to cause violence of an unimaginable proportion in his own state.
However, we urge Gov. Makinde to stay clear of Osun state of he would not encourage his brother governor to embrace peace.” APC stated.
