A 23-year-old man has been detained by Lagos State Police Command officers for allegedly burgling a flat and raping a 47-year-old woman.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday in Lagos.

Hundeyin stated that the incident took place around 3:00 a.m. on March 26 in the Ikotun area of the state and that the victim later reported the matter to the Ikotun Police Division.

He explained that the victim accused the suspect of breaking into her room and forcibly engaging in sexual assault.
He stated, “She alleged the suspect broke into her room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
“Her cries reportedly drew the attention of a neighbour who came to her aid. The suspect allegedly attacked the neighbour with a sharp object, injuring his forehead.
“A patrol team was promptly deployed to the scene and arrested the suspect.”
He also stated that both the victim and the injured neighbour were transported to the hospital for medical care.
The police spokesperson confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
