A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for the brutal murder of his 68-year-old mother, Dorathy Anyaji, during a dispute over money.
The tragic incident took place on April 11, 2025, in Amudo Village, Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The police investigation revealed that the altercation between Anyaji and his mother stemmed from an argument over money raised from a cassava business venture.

In the heat of the argument, Anyaji attacked his mother with an axe, fatally injuring her, after committing the crime, he attempted suicide but was stopped by neighbors before he could succeed.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State Police spokesman, confirmed that Anyaji was apprehended and is now under close supervision to prevent further harm to himself, he also stated that Anyaji will be charged once the investigation is complete.
Ikenga said, “Police operatives attached to the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station on April 11, 2025, at 1:40 pm, arrested one Nnamdi Anyaji, aged 49, of Amudo Village, Ekwulobia, who attempted to take his own life after killing his mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji, aged 68, of the same address.
“The operatives also recovered one axe at the scene. Preliminary information revealed that the squabble began when the suspect accused the deceased of being dishonest about the money realized from a cassava business.
“Meanwhile, the suspect is in custody and under close monitoring to prevent any further harm. He will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.”
